Meet Dr. Jeff

Jeff Fauntleroy Sr. (“Dr. Jeff”) began his lifelong commitment to service at a young age, attending political rallies with his mother. She instilled in him a deep sense of civic duty that continues to guide his work today.

After graduating high school in New Jersey, Jeff Fauntleroy Sr. joined the police force, serving more than 25 years in law enforcement. During that time, he developed a strong belief in building community trust and the importance of accessible mental health and counseling services.

His experience included:
  • Hostage negotiations
  • Providing logistical support for the U.S. President and foreign dignitaries in coordination with the U.S. Secret Service
  • Building community relationships through public safety work

While still in law enforcement, Jeff Fauntleroy Sr. became a pastor—an experience that led to him being featured in the documentary "American Babylon," an intimate look at his efforts to strengthen his community.
To support his family, he also:
  • Appeared in more than 18 episodes of "Law & Order"
  • Worked in construction
  • Earned union membership in Local 331 (where he served as an organizer), Local 415, and the Screen Actors Guild

After retiring in 2005, Jeff and his wife became caregivers to his mother and her oldest sister, a role they maintained until the height of COVID-19 in 2020.

Civic Leadership

Guided by the civic values his mother instilled, Jeff Fauntleroy Sr. was elected to the Atlantic City Board of Education, where he served two three-year terms, including time as vice president. He later served as a trustee at Atlantic Cape Community College.

Following retirement, he relocated to Tampa, Florida, where he:
  • Taught criminal justice at the high school level for three years
  • ​Served on the Mayor’s African American Advisory Council, later becoming its president

service to GEORGIA

After moving to Gwinnett County in 2016, Jeff Fauntleroy Sr. became congregational care pastor at the House of Hope Church in Decatur. His leadership included oversight of:
  • Men’s Ministry
  • Outreach Ministry
  • Sick and Shut-In and Bereavement Ministries
  • Prison Ministry, later renamed Returning Citizens Reentry
During the COVID-19 pandemic, his outreach efforts helped feed more than 5,000 people and supported local churches with food distribution.

His continued public service includes:

SMALL BUSINESS OWNER

​Jeff Fauntleroy Sr. is a small business owner with past experience as:
  • a UPS franchisee, and
  • the operator of J. Fauntleroy and Associates, a security company supporting large-scale events, including the Super Bowl.
Today he heads The Fauntleroy Institute. Merging faith and service, The Fauntleroy Institute offers practical, hands-on training, to develop leaders, ministers, and change-makers who are prepared to serve with excellence, integrity, and purpose.

Education

Jeff Fauntleroy Sr. holds:
  • A Bachelor of Arts in Ministerial Studies from Christian Bible Institute and Seminary
  • A Master of Divinity from Morehouse School of Religion
  • A Doctorate from Howard University School of Divinity

​In 2023, Dr. Jeff was inducted into the Morehouse College Board of Sponsors. He is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and serves as chaplain of the Zeta Beta Beta Chapter.

Family

Jeff has been married to his wife, Karen, for 34 years. Together, they are active in the lives of their three adult children and five grandchildren, and they care for two beloved dogs—a Cane Corso and a mixed-breed rescue.
